- Section 05120 - Structural steel building frame.
- Section 05400 - Cold formed metal framing: Stud wall framing
system.
- Section 06001 - Carpentry: Furring and framing.
- Section 07212 - Board insulation.
- Section 07620 - Sheet metal flashing and trim.
- Section 07900 - Joint sealers.
- Quality Assurance
- Manufacturer: Panels shall be manufactured by Exterior Technologies
Group, Inc., Zeeland, Michigan. (616) 355-2970.
- Installer: Company specializing in performing the work of
this Section shall install the system in strict compliance
with the written "Installation Guide."
- Pre-Installation Conference: Schedule and convene a pre-installation
conference just prior to commencement of field operations,
and establish procedures to maintain optimum working conditions
and to coordinate this work with related and adjacent work.
Agenda of the conference shall include review of the substrate
for being true and plumb.
1.3 DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
- Design, fabricate, and erect a pressure equalized "rainscreen"
aluminum wall panel system to meet the following requirements.
- Rain penetration: prevent rain penetration through wall
system. Design system based on pressure equalization "Rain
Screen Principal." Incorporate means of draining to the
exterior.
- Wind Load: Design wall system to resist wind loads, positive
and negative, expected in this geographical region without
causing rattling, vibration, or excessive deflection of
panels, overstressing of fasteners, clips and other detrimental
effects of system.
- Structural and thermal movement: Accommodate movement
of support structural framing and movement caused by thermal
expansion and contraction of system component parts.
- Testing: Provide wall assembly that has been tested and certified
to conform to the following criteria:
- Air Leakage: Not more that 0.06 (cfm)/sf of wall area
when tested at 6.24 psf in accordance with ASTM E283.
- Water Penetration: No water infiltration under static
pressure when tested in accordance with ASTM E331 at a differential
of 10% of inward acting design load, 15.00 psf minimum,
after 15 minutes.
- Water penetration is defined as the appearance of uncontrolled
water in the wall.
- Wall design shall feature provisions to drain to the
exterior face of the wall any leakage of water at joints
and any condensation that may occur within the construction.
- Structural: Provide systems that have been tested in accordance
with ASTM E330 at a design pressure of [specify pressure] pst
(___ kPa) and have been certified to be without permanent deformation
or failures of structural members.
- Pressure Equalization: Provide only systems that have a certified pressure equalization test.
1.4 Shop Drawings
- Submit shop drawings in accordance with Division I.
- Indicate dimensions, profiles, and joint details. Indicate system extrusions, fastening, anchor, and installation details.
- Samples: Submit the following samples.
- Panel Finish: Submit color charts for initial color selection. Submit finished color samples illustrating sheen and color for final approval, if necessary.
- Trim / Molding / Extrusion Color: Submit color charts for color selection.
1.5 Product Delivery, Handling, and Storage
- Deliver materials and products in labeled packages. Store and handle in
strict compliance with manufacturers instructions and recommendations.
Protect from damage from weather, excessive temperatures and construction
operations.
- Store prefinished material off ground with weather
protection Also prevent twisting, bending, or abrasion and provide
ventilation.
- Prevent contact with materials, which may cause
discoloration or staining.
1.6 WARRANTY
- Provide manufacturers 1-year warranty, from date of certificate of completion, against
manufacturing defects.
- Provide finish warranty of 5-year for 50% Kynar, and 10-year for 70% Kynar.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PANELS
- Provide Dri-Design® Aluminum Wall Panel System of 3003-H14
aluminum. Thickness of aluminum shall be (.063 for panel dimensions
from 30" - 36",) and (.080 for panel dimensions 36"-48"). Overall
depth of panels to be 1 ¼". Panels are to be of dry joint design
with an integral interlocking gutter. Corners are to be welded.
- Sub-girts and/or Z-furring: Galvanized steel, minimum 20 gauge,
of dimensions as indicated on drawings.
- Pre-finished Moldings: Extrusion Formed Aluminum (specify
gauge) with a Kynar painted finish, to profile required on drawings.
(Manufacturer's standard line of extrusions).
- Fasteners: Stainless steel fasteners suitable for attaching
to specified substrate. Minimum ¾" length, with heads/integral
washers a minimum of 7/16" diameter.
- Sealants: In accordance with Section 07900.
- Accessories: Panel manufacturers standard accessories as required
by project conditions.
2.2 PANEL FINISH
- The painted finish on the exposed
aluminum surfaces shall be a kynar resin finish as manufactured
by Valspar, PPG, or equivalent. Color to be (name and number)
selected by the architect. The painted finish is to be applied
over a 45 mg per sq. ft. chrome phosphate pre-treatment that is
high-pressure spray applied to assure uniform coverage.
- Paint shall be applied by Linetec, Wausau, WI. Applicator shall retain
sample panels processed with the project and tested to verify
full compliance with AAMA 2605 (or 2604). Applicator shall have
in house color matching computers and spectrophotometers to achieve
and verify color match within 2-Delta-E on all releases for the
project.
- The applicator shall be fully EPA compliant with a
system that captures and incinerates a minimum of 95% of the VOC's
produced in the finishing process.
PART 3 - INSTALLATION EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
- Verify substrate framing under provisions of Division.
- The installing contractor shall examine the alignment of the
substrate and/or substructure before installing the Dri-Design®
Wall Panels and shall not proceed with installation if the structure
is not aligned to the tolerances established by the AISC Code
of Standard Practice.
- Verify compatibility of different surfaces.
3.2 INSTALLATION
- Protect metal surfaces in contact with concrete,
masonry mortar, plaster or other cementitious surfaces with an
isolation coating.
- Installation is to be in strict accordance
with manufacturers written recommendations.
- Install weather barrier.
- If required by documents, install sub-girts and/or
Z furring horizontally to substrate at centers corresponding to
horizontal joint spacing of panels. Secure to building to suit
loading requirements.
- Ensure that all flashing and trim is
installed before erecting panels, sealed with tape or sealant
to stop direct weather penetration per manufacturers installation
instructions.
- Panels should be erected level and plumb in proper
alignment and relation to substructure. Panels must be installed
horizontally working from bottom to top, and each row from left
to right in accordance with the tongue and groove interlocking
system.
- Obtain panel symmetry whenever possible relative to
openings e.g. doors and windows using shop fabricated (choose
one: custom welded corners or extruded aluminum metal corners).
3.3 CONTROL / EXPANSION JOINTS
- Construct control and/or expansion
joints as indicated.
3.4 CLEANING
- Clean work under provisions of Division 1.
- Wash down exposed exterior surface using solution
of mild detergent in warm water, applied with a soft cloth or
sponge.
- Remove excess sealant with recommended solvent.
